Type Locality and Naming

Along Tumsai, Karachatyr Mountains, South Nuratau Ridge, I.A. Pyanova in 1984 (371, p. 38). The term is no longer in use.

Synonym: Tumsai Suite, Тумсайская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Quartz, quartz-feldspathic sandstones, siltstone (aleurolites), slates, in the lower part with lenses and layers of acidic tuffs. Thickness about 150 m.

Lower contact

Contacts with adjacent layers are almost everywhere tectonic, only in Tashlaksa with underlying layers - normal stratigraphic.

Contacts with adjacent layers are almost everywhere tectonic

South Nuratau Ridge, Karatau Mountains (basin of the Kurai, Sharlak, Kyzyl-Tut, Aktapo rivers, etc.); Karachatyr.

Fossils

Contains graptolites of the zones Spirograptus minor–Spirograptus turriculatus and Globosograptus crispus of the lower-middle part of the Late Llandovery; chitinozoa Lagenochitina sp., Sphaerochitina sp., indicating a Silurian age.


Age 

According to Strat. sl. (443), the span and age of the suite require clarification. R.S. Khan et al. (1989), R.R. Uzakov et al. (1989), V.S. Korsakov et al. (1993) separated the Lower-Middle Ordovician deposits of the Badamchali Fm, from the Lower, Middle, Upper Llandovery deposits of the Nakrut Fm, from the terrigenous-volcanogenic deposits of the Dzhazbulak Fm, and separated the flyschoid Wenlock deposits of the Nauchatsay Fm from the composition of the Tumsay Fm.
